Can you also clean up methods like isFloat and isFloat8?

I have a commit (that I'm going to turn into a PR) that handles all of these integrations after upstream changes. If you want to wait I can send it tomorrow (after this one lands "thoroughly").

Those are two independent upstream changes and could have landed separately, but if Maksim already has them ready, I will leave it to him.
