Description
Leaving this up to capture the rough vision of where I want to take this application, and using more tightly scoped release issues (ex #231 ) to capture imminent work. Also maybe someone uses this app someday, and naturally wonders what the plan is for its future. As of now, something like this (unordered)
- Documents list and search (v0.4 #116 )
- WYSIWYG editor w/ markdown shortcuts (v0.5 #123 )
- Note linking / native style toolbar (v0.6 #169 )
- Image handling that is better than Apple notes (v0.7 #231 )
- Markdown export (unlock publishing flows) (v0.8 - Markdown files #247)
- Markdown import (support importing from other apps) (v0.8 - Markdown files #247)
- Improved MacOS UX (v0.9 - Improve first time UX (Jan-Feb 2025) #253)
- Basic theme and font customization support
- General UI design polish
- Intelligent image grouping #267 v 0.10 - Image improvements (April-May 2025) #295
- Bulk note actions (Bulk note actions #246)
- Note versioning
- Encryption
- Multi platform support (if people ask for it)
Possible paid features
Paid features are a big maybe from me, and if so definitely as an opt-in add-on. Without them app will just work, can sync local files via Dropbox or whatever, etc. But I have some needs (like, can't use this app at work easily), and some wants (would be nice to auto-publish to a hosted blog I don't have to mange), that fit well into some kind of paid service.
These features will be optional, fully opt-in, and will adhere to the existing security and privacy policies. They are a distant maybe as of today.
- Cloud sync
- Web UI
Non features
Chronicles is focused on the kind of daily (ish) note taking I take, and that I see MANY of my colleagues taking in various forms. Its goal is to make it easy to just write and go, and have reasonable features for viewing / linking / searching, and to have a relatively opinionated flow and "complete" out of the box feature set. Other note applications will be more suitable in various scenarios:
- Collaborative notes: Use notion or Google docs, or something else; IMO that space is well explored.
- Wiki-style organization / publish: Use Obsidian
- Mind mapping / outlining: Use Roam / Logseq maybe?
