Hi! I tried installing haskell-language-server-1.8.0.0 via ghcup:

ghcup install hls 1.8.0.0

Now I have this:

haskell-language-server version: 1.8.0.0 (GHC: 9.4.2) (PATH: /home/mitchell/.ghcup/hls/1.8.0.0/lib/haskell-language-server-1.8.0.0/bin/haskell-language-server-wrapper)

...but what's that GHC: 9.4.2? Out of curiosity, I tried changing the GHC on my path to 9.0.2 and running hls. And sure enough, it was busted.

Tool versions found on the $PATH
cabal: 3.8.1.0
stack: 2.7.5
ghc: 9.0.2

Consulting the cradle to get project GHC version...
Project GHC version: 9.0.2
haskell-language-server exe candidates: ["haskell-language-server-9.0.2","haskell-language-server"]
Launching haskell-language-server exe at:/home/mitchell/.ghcup/bin/haskell-language-server-9.0.2
GHC ABIs don't match!

So, my question is: are these ghcup-installed hls executables only usable by one version of the compiler? Am I able to install a version of haskell-language-server-1.8.0.0 that works with GHC 9.0.2 (for example), or no?

Thanks for your help!

but what's that GHC: 9.4.2

No, that's just the GHC version the HLS wrapper was built with. It doesn't matter.

This should work. What's your distro and distro version?

I just noticed this issue may be a duplicate of #3225
