Improved Inventory of Modems and SIM Cards

Your idea

I have the following Device:

With almost no or wrong information. But via generic AT commands, I can get a lot of usefull informations:

AT+CGMI	Manufacturer
AT+CGMM	Model

Ist there already a possibility to gain these Information?

Maybe a "simcards" section could be added with these datas. But actually, it was only implemented for network devices like Digi and that was a long time ago. I really don't know if it make sens for computer but maybe it is also supported by Android agent.

You still can try to update manually the inventory to add that section following the spec and import the result manually to see if this helps.

Ill Check, if this maybe also work on Windows. Most newer modems are connected via USB Bus and creating virtual Serial ports. Ill guess we just need to determine which ports the devices creates a fire up the relevant commands.

Is also a big issue. Some ?a lot? USB Device presenting a "default" serial number (e.g. 000000), which makes GPLI identify these as the same device. So if I have 700 devices with this serial number, GLPI identify this as one (and moving it between the assets)

This is not a good serial number anyway. You should just add this string to the blacklist rules.

Wait ... so you suggest to ignore million of devices in inventory cause agent (ok, and the device :) providing the wrong serial number? - In my opinion a much better solution is to make glpi-agent providing the right serial number xD - That's the reason of this idea ;)

I only suggest to do this for now as this serialnumber is just wrong.

Implementing a solution would of course be better, but actually we don't have any dedicated module to help better support for usb devices. I even don't know if this is really a good idea.
