Announcing another static typing package https://github.com/34j/array-api

I would like to inform that I have created https://github.com/34j/array-api today, which is already on PyPI: https://pypi.org/project/array-api/.

It also offers "type stubs" for array-api-compat, which is my primaly purpose.

Note that separated static typing package https://github.com/data-apis/array-api-typing was intitially proposed and started from #863. Unfortunately, I could not easily reach an agreement with the maintainers on that repository about setup and development policy maybe due to my inability and impatiance. It took me a whole day, but I managed to complete the project instead.

Notes:

• The types are completely automatically generated by https://github.com/34j/array-api/blob/main/src/array_api/cli/_main.py. It takes only 400 lines of code to automatically generate 9,000 or so lines of types https://github.com/34j/array-api/blob/main/src/array_api/_2024_12.py. (The line count is contributed by the fact that each docstring is added three times to make sure that the IDE can display the docstrings.)
• All versions except 2021.12, which original code is broken (no self keyword on some methods), are automatically generated.
• The fact that it was quite “black magic” and that it seemed impossible to contribute to array-api-typing was one of the reasons I created another repository.
• I am always welcome to transfer it to data-apis (though this seems to be impossible).
• I have given up on Array as a generic for Shape, Device, and Dtype. After a fruitful discussion with @jorenham at Shape Typing array-api-typing#15 I found that typing Shape is very difficult. Also I thought that it is very rare for Device, Dtype to change within a function.
• Following test was successful (ArrayNamespace $\subset$ array_api_strict)https://github.com/34j/array-api/blob/main/tests/test_main.py:

• There are already https://github.com/nstarman/array_api and https://github.com/jorenham/optype as personal and similar projects as mentioned in A separate typing package? #863.
• I really thank the entire community for their valuable ideas and suggestions.
